Toys, The Armory

A wall of toys at the SF Armory. At the old Kink.com Porn Palace, these toys were behind bars whenever I saw them. Now, the machined-aluminum stocks and antiqued wood and hemp spreader bars are just asking to be fondled.

Dead End, With Tiedowns

Dead End, With Tiedowns

Originally uploaded by Thomas Roche

This is quite possibly my favorite place in the entire San Francisco Armory. It is a little dead-end back alley overseen by a great gaping ventillator shaft. Somebody’s drilled tiedowns into the walls, meaning some lucky girl or guy was, at some recent point, chained or tied here, and probably thereafter had wonderful and/or terrible things done to him or her, and perhaps more important got paid for it.

Friday while giving Regina Lynn a tour I reached this dead end and found it had these yellow work lights. It reminded me that I have not shot any dirty pictures in a very long time. All of my early erotic photographs were shot using these halogen worklights because I was too poor to purchase photofloods. I still have a great fondness for them.

Carol Queen and Seth at the Leather Leadership Conference this past weekend in San Francisco. Carol was about to take the stage to introduce Patrick Califia, who spoke at the Conference’s closing ceremonies. Patrick spoke movingly of, rather than getting overwhelmed by the huge number of things that need fixing in the leather community, just picking one thing that’s fucked up and working on that.

Halloween Bondage Ball (Event Review)

November 29, 2007

All photos by Ila Packman

The sweet sounds of Halloween could be heard on Hollywood Boulevard. Horns honking, revelers reveling and ghouls, ghosties, faeries and sluts running rampant heading straight to the Henry Fonda for the ultimate kinky event, Bondage Ball. Such delicious fun ought not to be allowed in a town that is as dirty and as full of plastic and tinsel as Los Angeles, but lucky we are. We have the ultimate in pervy fun right at our front door.

I remember the early years of Bondage Ball. Held up the street in a much smaller venue, it was enjoyable, a little darker and much more confusing. Now utilizing the two floors of the Henry Fonda, a VIP area, 2 full bars (the rooftop bar cash only), multiple DJs spinning through the night, full stage performances and Emily Marilyn becoming a regular performer for Courtney and Matthew Grimm, the Bondage Ball is the perfect event.

Skin Two Rubber Ball Weekend (Event Review)

October 19, 2007

Byron Knight’s review of the legendary Skin Two Rubber Ball:

Ahh, traveling halfway around the world from Los Angeles to London for the 16th annual Skin Two Rubber Ball Weekend can make a guy have some high expectations. The last and only other time that I attended the Rubber Ball was 6 years ago in 2001. I really loved that last event, it was amazing. One of the best-dressed crowds at any fetish event I had ever attended. Now I’m back for round two from Skin Two.

London is not only a wonderful city to visit; it is a place where you can get caught up in the fast pace of how this city moves. I guess the locals must cope with the cost of this very expensive city by moving twice as fast. It’s not laid-back, sunny southern California here. Very little here is laid back. This must be why they take their fetish scene seriously.

Slaves (DVD Review)

October 19, 2007

Speaking of transgressive banging, Slaves is another hybrid film, but what it’s a hybrid of is a source of many a spirited argument. It received a not very good review in Eros Zine way back before my time. It’s not so much that it’s “controversial” as that some people absolutely hate it. It is engineered to be challenging to the audience, so… surprise.

What seems to have escaped a lot of folks is that the comment intended is at once dead serious and hilariously satiric; to me, it’s so darkly funny that it left me feeling creepy for about ten days, and giggling frequently during most of the 2,780 showers I took during that period. If something can have that kind of effect on me, there’s only one thing I can call it: brilliant.

Slaves is so strange and affecting that if it does not short-circuit your brain on some level, I’m not sure you have one. To call it “thought provoking” or “disturbing” is like calling a boot upside the head “attention-getting.” As an absolute fanatic for weird psychosexual horror films, I gotta put this one right up there with Scanners and Videodrome. Like six chainsaws or something, or maybe no chainsaws but enough whips to supply an army of latter-day deSades. And more vibrators than I can count, if you are a sick depraved pervert.

Jewell Marceau (Interview)

October 4, 2007

Jewell Marceau is a director, model and actress who’s appeared in hundreds of video productions, working with many of the biggest names in the business. From her intense play in the Ivy Manor series from Gwen Media to her ravenous appetite for extreme bondage with House of Gord and her retro flip as a bondage top in Madison Young’s Bondage Boob Tube, Jewell has made herself a living legend of bondage.

We caught up with the very busy Jewell Marceau to have a chat about sex, bondage and the female form.

Who Gets Better Sex? Country Kink or City Perv? (Midori: Diva’s Debauchery)

October 4, 2007

“I know this isn’t San Francisco…” As my teaching tour takes me to various cities and towns, invariably someone will apologize to me about the supposed lack of sexual sophistication in that particular town.

“Oh, you’re so lucky to live in San Francisco. It must be amazing and wild!” Some will exclaim to me, as their gaze drifts off, imagining some sunny Shangri-La shaded by palm trees and the wafting scent of leather.

Indeed, my beloved San Francisco is a wonderful town, unique and blessed. There are also other cities known for relatively sexually liberal social climates, such as Amsterdam, New York, Los Angeles, etc. With the mention each of these locales, my friends from small towns and villages must imagine some non-stop bacchanal, with each player more sexually savvy then the last.

Flesh and Blood (Movie Review)

September 18, 2007

Larry Silverman’s beautifully photographed documentary Flesh & Blood takes on Phoenix’s Steve Haworth, a devotee of extreme body modification and fonder of Life Suspended, a group devoted to fleshhook suspension. The modifications that Haworth offers are among the most extreme in the world, and the footage in this film is extremely explicit, with oodles of genital nudity and plenty of piercing and cutting, including some genital cutting in excruciating detail. Oh, and there’s lots — LOTS! — of suspension, that is to say, our mortal bretheren putting enormous hooks into their bodies and hanging from them. Flesh & Blood has its West Coast Premiere at San Francisco’s Docfest on October 2 at 7pm; it plays again October 5 at 9:15pm.
